Geological and Mine Surveying Services
The geological and mine surveying service is one of the most important components of a mining enterprise’s operational structure. In accordance with Order of the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine No. 669 dated 31.03.2021 “On Approval of the Rules for Performing Mine Surveying Works during the Development of Ore and Non-Ore Mineral Deposits”, mining enterprises must have a mine surveying service staffed with qualified specialists and equipped with the necessary instruments and tools for processing and reproducing geological and mine surveying documentation. However, for deposits developed by open-pit mining, mine surveying support may be performed by third-party entities on the basis of an appropriate agreement.
The Institute of Geology holds all the required permits, employs qualified specialists, and possesses modern mine surveying equipment to provide professional geological and mine surveying support for your enterprise.
- development of mine surveying and geodetic control networks;
- tacheometric surveys and preparation of graphical documentation reflecting the current state of mining operations;
- preparation of geological documentation describing the occurrence of minerals and host rocks;
- accounting of reserves condition and movement, recording of in-situ losses, preparation of reporting documentation, and development of mining operation programs;
- mine surveying support for waste dump formation and reclamation of lands disturbed by mining;
- monitoring of deformations of mine workings;
- control of compliance with geometric parameters of benches, slopes, pit walls, and haul roads in accordance with the mining project and annual production plan;
- control of compliance with technical boundaries of the subsoil plot and mining and land allotments;
- accounting of mineral extraction volumes and measurement of remaining stockpiles at storage facilities;
- maintenance and updating of logs and registers of geological and mine surveying control.
During surveys, our specialists use modern mine surveying equipment and licensed (certified) software. Survey works are carried out using tacheometric methods and drone-based aerial surveys. Calculation of extracted material volumes is performed using horizontal cross-sections, parallel geological profiles, or 3D modeling.
During mining operations, geologists of the Institute of Geology conduct detailed additional studies of the lithological and petrographic composition of the mineral, investigate its structure and texture, fracturing, degree of weathering, and other characteristics. Classification and sampling are carried out in accordance with State Standards (DSTU), followed by submission of samples to processing enterprises for technological testing and laboratory analysis.
In addition, the responsibilities of geologists include continuous control and supervision of proper mining practices and rational use of explosives. Geologists are also responsible for classification and selection of samples in compliance with State Standards (DSTU) and their submission to processing enterprises for technological tests and laboratory studies. Thus, the комплекс of field, laboratory, and office works offered by the Institute of Geology ensures accurate accounting of mineral reserves and losses during extraction and storage.
The annual result of our work is a “Mining Operations Plan” approved by the State Labor Service, an updated set of mining and graphical documentation (bench-by-bench mining plans, sections, haul road profiles, etc.), and annual reporting prepared and submitted to the State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine (Form 5‑GR certificate, mineral reserve write-off act, and certificate on implementation of the work program).
