Well drilling plan
Well drilling plan is the core technical document prepared for the design and execution of well construction works. The plan contains all technical, geological, and engineering data required for cost estimation and proper organization of drilling operations.
A well drilling plan may be developed for a single well (individual plan) or for several wells within one site (group plan). The plan is prepared by specialized design organizations in accordance with the design assignment issued by the well owner or project customer.
A well drilling plan includes the following mandatory sections:
- orographic characteristics of the area;
- geological description and hydrogeological conditions;
- geophysical and exploratory studies;
- preparatory works prior to well construction;
- drilling equipment, derricks, auxiliary facilities, and boiler units;
- well drilling technology and casing design;
- well productivity testing and justification of construction duration;
- mechanization of drilling processes;
- occupational health and safety measures;
- industrial sanitation and fire safety measures;
- design and cost-estimate documentation;
- list of wells with technical and economic indicators;
- environmental impact assessment.
The well drilling plan is supplemented by a geological and technical work order as well as a transport access scheme indicating access roads to the drilling site.
Determination of the sanitary protection zone for the future well is mandatory. Within this zone, special measures are implemented to prevent contamination of the water intake and the aquifer in the area of groundwater abstraction.
Sanitary protection zones are designed in accordance with current legislation and regulatory documentation, including:
- VDBN V.2.5–74–2013 “Water supply. External networks and facilities”;
- Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 18.12.1998 No. 2024 “On the legal regime of sanitary protection zones of water bodies”;
- Regulation on the procedure for design and operation of sanitary protection zones of water supply sources and water pipelines.
Specialists of the Institute of Geology develop a well drilling plan at a high technical level and within optimized timeframes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and site-specific conditions.
