Well drilling plan is the core tech­ni­cal doc­u­ment pre­pared for the design and exe­cu­tion of well con­struc­tion works. The plan con­tains all tech­ni­cal, geo­log­i­cal, and engi­neer­ing data required for cost esti­ma­tion and prop­er orga­ni­za­tion of drilling oper­a­tions.

A well drilling plan may be devel­oped for a sin­gle well (indi­vid­ual plan) or for sev­er­al wells with­in one site (group plan). The plan is pre­pared by spe­cial­ized design orga­ni­za­tions in accor­dance with the design assign­ment issued by the well own­er or project cus­tomer.

A well drilling plan includes the fol­low­ing manda­to­ry sec­tions:

• oro­graph­ic char­ac­ter­is­tics of the area;
• geo­log­i­cal descrip­tion and hydro­ge­o­log­i­cal con­di­tions;
• geo­phys­i­cal and explorato­ry stud­ies;
• prepara­to­ry works pri­or to well con­struc­tion;
• drilling equip­ment, der­ricks, aux­il­iary facil­i­ties, and boil­er units;
• well drilling tech­nol­o­gy and cas­ing design;
• well pro­duc­tiv­i­ty test­ing and jus­ti­fi­ca­tion of con­struc­tion dura­tion;
• mech­a­niza­tion of drilling process­es;
• occu­pa­tion­al health and safe­ty mea­sures;
• indus­tri­al san­i­ta­tion and fire safe­ty mea­sures;
• design and cost-esti­mate doc­u­men­ta­tion;
• list of wells with tech­ni­cal and eco­nom­ic indi­ca­tors;
• envi­ron­men­tal impact assess­ment.

The well drilling plan is sup­ple­ment­ed by a geo­log­i­cal and tech­ni­cal work order as well as a trans­port access scheme indi­cat­ing access roads to the drilling site.

Deter­mi­na­tion of the san­i­tary pro­tec­tion zone for the future well is manda­to­ry. With­in this zone, spe­cial mea­sures are imple­ment­ed to pre­vent con­t­a­m­i­na­tion of the water intake and the aquifer in the area of ground­wa­ter abstrac­tion.

San­i­tary pro­tec­tion zones are designed in accor­dance with cur­rent leg­is­la­tion and reg­u­la­to­ry doc­u­men­ta­tion, includ­ing:

• VDBN V.2.5–74–2013 “Water sup­ply. Exter­nal net­works and facil­i­ties”;
• Res­o­lu­tion of the Cab­i­net of Min­is­ters of Ukraine dat­ed 18.12.1998 No. 2024 “On the legal regime of san­i­tary pro­tec­tion zones of water bod­ies”;
• Reg­u­la­tion on the pro­ce­dure for design and oper­a­tion of san­i­tary pro­tec­tion zones of water sup­ply sources and water pipelines.
